Sant'Alfio
,"wine town" is situated in an ideal position between
the mountains and the sea, 550 metres above sea level.
You can reach the town in a few minutes (see Map)
From the Giarre exit on the motorway, it is 8 kilometres away,
passing through Macchia, San Giovanni Montebello.
For those who love holidays in the country but at the same time enjoy
the sea, you can get to the beaches of Fondachello and Marina di Cottone
(Fiumefreddo reserve) in 20 minutes and Giardini Naxos and the Riviera
dei Ciclopi in 30 minutes by car. The town is easily reached, taking
the Grand Tour of Etna, following the provincial road from Linguaglossa
round the slopes of the volcano towards Fornazzo and Milo. Passing through
blooming hazel groves, dotted with old rural houses in lava stone, you
come to the signpost for Sant'Alfio and the 100 Horses' Chestnut Tree.
